I have been studying traditional Japanese woodblock printing in Kyoto since February 2020. I aim to experiment with my prints and hopefully bring something fresh to the art, but I also simultaneously spend time studying more traditional prints and expressing my thoughts and ideas through more traditional looking prints.

I first encountered ukiyoe as a child, growing up in the Finnish countryside. They resonated in me strongly, mostly Hokusai with his masterfully minimalist approach, detail where it is necessary, imagination filling in the blanks where needed. That to me is the perfection of this art.  To make simple things seem complex, and to make complex things seem simple. The balance. The way of carving.

令和2年2月から京都で木版画を勉強している中です。

その前にアートの大学で3週間の白黒版画のクラスに２０１８年に参加したので、その後自分で勉強することのを続けました。

子どもの頃、フィンランドの田舎に成長したとき、浮世絵の絵本を初めて見てた。

特別に北斎様とか、川瀬巴水様の作品は大きな影響になりました。

北斎様の考え方は凄くいいね、小さな詳細も持っても、そのミニマリスト考え方も持ってる。空のスペースの使うのは必要です。

その彫らないものを心が描いてるので、そんなことは素晴らしいだと思います。

細かいことはシンプルらしい、シンプル事は細かいらしいね、そんなバランス。
