I studied traditional Japanese woodblock printing in Kyoto since February 2020 for 4 years. I aim to experiment with my prints and hopefully bring something fresh to the art, but I also simultaneously spend time studying more traditional prints and expressing my thoughts and ideas through more traditional looking prints.

I first encountered ukiyoe as a child, growing up in the Finnish countryside. They resonated in me strongly, mostly Hokusai with his masterfully minimalist approach, detail where it is necessary, imagination filling in the blanks where needed. That to me is the perfection of this art.  To make simple things seem complex, and to make complex things seem simple. The balance. The way of carving.

令和2年2月から4年間京都で木版画を勉強していました。

子どもの頃、フィンランドの田舎に成長したとき、浮世絵の絵本を初めて見ていまして、感動しました。

特別に北斎様とか、川瀬巴水様の作品は大きな影響になりました。

北斎様の考え方は凄くいいね、小さな詳細も持っても、その中で割と単純な考え方もあると思います。空のスペースの使い方とか、非常に美しくて、意識の中で観客様が自分の意識の中で作品を完成してくれるようなことだと思います。

その彫らないものを心が描いてるので、そんなことは素晴らしいです。

細かいことは単純らしくて、単純な微妙に繊細だからこそ、そんなバランスはに自分でも目指します。
